On 5th December 1998, SMK Sungai Pusu (SMKSP) was opened to the student. All the administration tasks were operated in the SK Sungai Pusu's office until 28th December 1998. The form 1 registration was held on 21st December 1998 until 28th December 1998.
The Administration Department was transferred to the SMK Sungai Pusu's new building on 28th December 1998. In January 1999 the were 260 form 1 students started their lesson in 8 classes. In July 1999, SMKSP was selected as one of the Smart School by the Malaysia Ministry Of Education.
